Last weekend I was asked to make a birthday cake for one of my very good friends, Danny. Her husband was throwing her a "surprise" birthday party but this girl doesn't let anything go unnoticed. She knew all about it.
Everyone knows that she loves her dog more than anything in the world so we decided that a birthday cake of Honey would be perfect. It was no problem finding a photo of honey on facebook, but I did have a problem figuring out how to carve the cake.
I stared at the photo for a good half hour and made tiny chips in the cake before I realized that I'd be up all night if I didn't get the guts to just go for it. For the cake itself I used the King Arthur Flour's vanilla cake recipe.
I used the fur tip for the piping even though Honey isn't a long-haired dog. I didn't want there to be any doubt as to what the cake was.
I was really happy with the outcome, and even happier with Danny's reaction when she saw the cake. Happy Birthday Danny!
wooohooo! Love seeing the 'behind the scenes" Love the cake sooooo tasty!!
